Ivan Gorbenko was born on January, 21, 1946 in village of Buda-Makiivka, now is situated in Smilyansky district of Cherkaska oblast.

Gorbenko is a specialist in information security. He obtained Ph.D. in engineerings sciences in 1987 year. Since 1988 he is associate professor of the communication facilities department;  1991 - professor of the radiosystems for management and communication department. Graduated from the Kharkiv Higher Command and Engineering School of the Rocket Forces in 1972, where he worked since graduation. Since 1992 he has been working in the Kharkov Technical University of Radio Electronics as the professor of the Computer department, and since 1997 - as pro-rector in the advanced study; from 1999 is a head of department of “Safety of information technologies”, at the same time, from 1994 he is a chairman of the board and chief engineer in the JSC “Institute of information technologies”.

Basic directions of researches are: creation, analysis and realization of the systems and facilities for defense of information; research and realization of cryptographic protocols.

He published over 250 scientific works, among them:
— 5 monographs;
— 1 textbook and 6 train aids;
— more than 70 certificates of authorship and inventions;

He also supervised over 19 works for Candidate scientific degree and 2 Ph.D. in engineering.

Ivan Gorbenko is highly honored by the colleagues  from the university, the JSC “Institute of information technologies”, Department of special telecommunication  systems and defense of information of Security service of Ukraine, National space agency of Ukraine, NJSC ‘‘Naftogaz of Ukraine’’ and many  other state and commercial enterprises and establishments. For students he is a Teacher. For his successes in work he was repeatedly rewarded the state rewards and gratitudes. In particular by Order  #10-00 from  January, 29, 2006 "for the personal ponderable contribution to development of cryptology and systems of cryptographic defense of information in Ukraine" the doctor in engineering sciences, professor Gorbenko Ivan Dmitriovich, chairman of the board and chief engineer of the JSC "IIT", was awarded the "Honored sign of merit of Department of the special telecommunication systems and defense of information of Security service of Ukraine".
